LPCC, CSAT, EMDR Certified Therapist
Cynthia Stava
I earned a Master of Science in Industrial Psychology from California State University, Long Beach, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling from the Townsend Institute at Concordia University in Irvine, California. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), and an EMDR Certified Therapist. Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals in polyamorous relationships.
I believe counseling is an opportunity to come alongside people in their journey by building trust and providing support in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. I believe healing and recovery are possible, even after years of trauma, addiction, or painful life experiences. My clinical interests include complex trauma, attachment wounds, neuroscience, sexual addiction, substance use disorders and working with LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Using evidence-based approaches including EMDR, CBT, and DBT, I help clients understand how past experiences continue to influence their lives, develop healthier coping skills, and create more authentic, connected relationships. It has been a privilege to witness clients heal from traumatic childhood experiences and experience lasting change. I strive to bring compassion, authenticity, curiosity, humor, and honesty into every session.
Much of my career has been spent working with men struggling with pornography addiction, compulsive sexual behavior, substance use disorders, and the intersection of methamphetamine use and sex addiction. I began my career with an organization contracted by the state and federal government to provide treatment for individuals convicted of sexual offenses in California. I later worked at a recovery center providing intensive therapy for clients struggling with both substance use and sex addiction, always through a trauma-informed lens.
